Police Scotland warns Bonfire Night yobs will be brought to justice as firework bans are set for Edinburgh and Glasgow

Ch Supt David Robertson warned that emergency workers were subjected to attacks with fireworks, bricks and other projectiles during last year's Bonfire Night, stating it 'cannot and will not be tolerated'. Lighting a firework inside the new control zones becomes a criminal offence from 30 October. Edinburgh's ban extends to 8 November and Glasgow's to 9 November. Operation Moonbeam, now in its ninth year, was launched on Wednesday at Sighthill Fire Station.

Sixty-two officers sustained injuries in 2023 when gangs went on the rampage in Edinburgh's Niddrie area.

Edinburgh will have upwards of twelve dispersal zones in place, with one also covering Glasgow.

Last week, a sell-out Clydebank v Dumbarton match was brought to a halt after fireworks landed on the pitch.
