A contractor aged 50 was struck and killed by a tipper truck at Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, at around 1pm on 14 October. The incident occurred at a construction site within the palace grounds. Thames Valley Police and the Health and Safety Executive have jointly launched a fatality investigation. Blenheim Palace chief executive Dominic Hare said the fatal incident took place at a building site elsewhere on the estate and offered "heartfelt condolences" to the man's family.

The 12,000-acre estate, Unesco World Heritage site and ancestral seat of the Duke of Marlborough, is one of Oxfordshire's top tourist attractions.

Hare said that, with the police and HSE investigation ongoing, it would be premature to say anything further.

The man is reportedly a labourer, and the HSE has described the incident formally as an "industrial incident."
