Polish border village of Dorohusk braces for Russian hybrid attack after drones detonated TWO KILOMETRES away

From the Newshound archive · first published 28 September 2026.

Residents of Dorohusk, a Polish village just two kilometres from Ukraine, received three emergency alerts in a single day warning of incoming missiles or drones, as military helicopters rumbled overhead and the border crossing was evacuated. The village mayor, Wojciech Sawa, said explosions from two Russian drones detonating on the Ukrainian side of the border post on 13 September were clearly audible, describing it as the first time sirens had ever wailed in Dorohusk. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on 17 September that Russia is planning hybrid strikes on European countries supporting Ukraine, with border regions to be especially vulnerable in the coming months.

Russian drones struck the Ukrainian side of the Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing on 13 September, sending tremors of fear through the Polish village.

This July, a Russian missile had already passed through airspace in eastern Poland before the latest drone incidents escalated tensions further.
