Politico rejects the White House demand to retract its Susie Wiles reports but corrects one claim after a 'consequences' threat

White House Counsel William Scharf threatened Politico with legal action and a review of its White House access unless it apologised to President Donald Trump. His demand targeted three articles alleging dysfunction between Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles, including one claiming Trump had sought to remove her. Politico said it would stand behind its reporting and resist any effort to pressure its journalists.

Politico corrected a claim that Wiles had arranged a Fox News appearance for a former press secretary.

The administration has previously barred Politico from White House grounds and Air Force One.
