Polymarket sues New York attorney general to block state from shutting it down as illegal gambling

Crypto prediction market Polymarket has launched a counter-lawsuit against New York's attorney general, fighting back after the state sued to ban it as an unlicensed gambling operation. New York Attorney General Letitia James and Governor Kathy Hochul filed the original complaint on Thursday, demanding Polymarket forfeit its profits, repay users and pay fines triple its illegal gains. The platform's chief legal officer Neal Kumar vowed: 'We'll fight for our users.'

New York claims Polymarket lets under-21s bet despite state rules requiring mobile sports bettors to be at least 21.

The state is also demanding a court bar the company from operating in New York entirely, putting hundreds of local jobs at risk.
