Pope Leo walks unaided from Rome hospital four days after lung cancer surgery, and his surgeon clears his Latin America trip
Surgeon Stefano Margaritora has confirmed there are 'no clinical reasons' to prevent Pope Leo XIV from going ahead with his November 6-17 tour of Uruguay, Peru and Argentina. The 71-year-old had surgery at Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday to remove the right lung's lower lobe, and the procedure confirmed adenocarcinoma, the most common form of lung cancer.
Leo walked out of hospital four days after surgery — well ahead of the week or longer the Vatican had originally expected.
Asked how he was feeling, the pontiff replied: 'I am much better, thank you.'
A 13-year-old Ukrainian girl who had beaten cancer gave him a handcrafted papal doll.
