Pope Leo XIV accepts a Windsor title approved by the King, the first such exchange in roughly 500 years

The Dean and Canons of Windsor announced that Pope Leo XIV is now Papal Confrater of the College of St George at St George's Chapel. The honour comes a year to the day after King Charles and the Queen met him on a state visit to the Vatican. On that trip Charles was welcomed as Royal Confrater of St Paul's Outside the Walls in Rome. English monarchs' link to that basilica ended when Henry VIII broke with Rome.
Buckingham Palace hailed 'a visible sign of spiritual fellowship' and 'Christian fraternity'.
A specially commissioned chair for the Pope will be unveiled at St George's Chapel.
Leo will miss next week's Assisi trip while he recovers from lung surgery.
