Primark urgently recalls two Halloween gonk decorations over fears they contain asbestos sand filling

Primark has pulled two Halloween gonk doorstep decorations from its shelves after the sand filling inside was found to be potentially contaminated with asbestos. The Office for Product Safety and Standards confirmed a health risk from both items, urging owners to stop using them immediately and keep them away from children. The two recalled gonks — model numbers 991174794 and 991179148 — are distinguishable by their headwear: one wears a pumpkin hat, the other a grey-haired witch hat.
Owners of a damaged gonk should put on gloves and a mask, clean up any loose material using damp cloths rather than dry methods, and seal everything in two bags.
Undamaged gonks should be placed in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-taped shut, clearly labelled, and stored securely out of children's reach until they can be returned.
Both models qualify for a full refund at any Primark store, no receipt required; those unable to return them should contact their local authority for advice on disposing of asbestos-containing material.
