Prime Minister Burnham is expected to sign investment and maritime security pacts with the Sultan of Oman at No 10
Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said will be welcomed at No 10 on Wednesday, the first state visit by an Omani sultan since 1982. The Strait of Hormuz, off Oman's coast, remains effectively closed to oil tankers. Oman is a key UK ally while America's war against Iran continues. Burnham hailed 'a friendship which generates real benefits' before the talks.
The maritime pact is intended to boost information sharing between the two nations.
Ed Miliband and Wes Streeting will also hold talks with their Omani counterparts.
Duqm in Oman hosts a major UK strategic military presence.
