Prince superfan, 22, who asked Prince William to sing 'Purple Rain' writes to say sorry for the mix-up

Sebastian Smith, 22, who has Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome and severe learning difficulties, has written a letter of apology to Prince William after mistaking him for the late pop star Prince during a royal visit to Sweet Surprise café in Ilminster, Somerset, on October 6. William recounted the encounter on 'The Graham Norton Show' on October 23, saying the man asked when he would "sing his performance" before staff clarified he was "not that prince." Sebastian's family came forward after the broadcast, with his mother Claire saying he had no idea who Prince William was but can name every Prince song and knows all the lyrics.

The café supports adults with learning difficulties, providing workplace education for people including Sebastian.

Claire said the family's phones "went crazy" after the Graham Norton Show as friends recognised the story.

William told the audience he does not know the lyrics to 'Purple Rain' — and had never had quite that request before.
