Princess Catherine launches nature project for children, saying outdoor time 'has never been more important'

Princess Catherine has launched a research initiative examining how nature can support babies' and young children's social and emotional development, describing the natural world as vital to "lifelong health and wellbeing." Run through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, the project will look at how nature, creativity and relationships can build the skills children need from their earliest years. Photographer Josh Shinner captured three new portraits of the princess in a Cornwall woodland on Thursday, released to coincide with the launch.

Prince William joined Catherine on the Cornwall visit and has taken a strong personal interest in the project, which is backed by the Duchy of Cornwall.

Catherine, 44, drew on her own cancer recovery in her video message, having previously described nature as her "sanctuary" during treatment.

The announcement came as Prince Harry and Meghan loudly relaunched themselves in Britain — with Kensington Palace pressing quietly ahead regardless.
