Private hire trade chief says TfL plans to make every London minicab fully electric by 2030 are 'not achievable'

Steve Wright, chair of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association, warns most drivers cannot charge at home and on-street charging is 'extremely expensive'. Transport for London wants every newly licensed private hire vehicle fully electric from 3 July 2028. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles would follow from July 2030. The consultation closes on 2 December, and Uber, Bolt and Lyft cars would be covered.

Under proposals taking effect from March 2027, minicabs would have their licences revoked at the 10-year mark.

TfL says more than 70 per cent of London's 94,661 private hire vehicles are already zero-emission capable.

Expired vehicles would get only 12 months to relicense, down from 24, or count as new.
