Stepdad who is accused of murdering student, 19, in her Preston university halls declines to give evidence at his trial
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, of Hartlepool, has opted not to give evidence, and his defence will call no witnesses at Preston Crown Court. Mr Justice Jacobs told Owens that jurors may 'draw such inferences as appear proper' from his decision to remain silent. Carla Georgescu's body was found at Ribble Hall on the day she would have turned 20. Owens denies murder, strangulation and GBH.
Prosecutors allege a 'dangerously entrenched sexual obsession' with his stepdaughter drove the killing.
CCTV shows him walking to her halls at 4am with a blanket over his head.
He allegedly left 90 minutes later wearing her trainers and shielding himself with an umbrella.
