Prosecutor brands Russell Brand a 'ruthless' 'sexual predator' who raped women to fulfil goal of bedding 5,000
Russell Brand arrives at Southwark Crown Court, where a prosecutor told jurors he was "child-like in his expectation that his every desire should be met.Russell Brand whose wife Laura Gallacher, 38, is standing by him throughout the trial, with an associate saying it was "the only decision she would possibly ever make.
Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC told a Southwark Crown Court jury that Russell Brand was a calculating predator who treated six women as "a means to an end" across a decade of alleged assaults. Brand, 51, denies three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault over alleged offences between 1999 and 2009. One alleged victim claims Brand apologised for treating her "like an animal" after a 2009 rape at his Hampstead home. Brand arrived at court saying he felt "blessed and hopeful", accompanied by wife Laura Gallacher.
Karmy-Jones told jurors Brand bragged to friends he was an 'expert pick-up artist' determined to bed 5,000 women, saying: 'All you have to do is tell them what they need to hear.'
Brand allegedly raped one woman in a Bournemouth hotel room during the 1999 Labour Party conference after stripping and performing Basil Fawlty-style silly walks.
Brand told one woman 'don't be a spoilsport' when she refused consent and reportedly laughed at accusers who tried to repel his advances, the court heard.
