Prosecutors say US college professor's son, 31, confessed on video to shooting his father and stepmother at their Ohio home

Asia Nguyen-Duy, 31, asked a stranger to record a video in which they claimed to be escaping a cult and confessed to shooting their father, Oberlin College studio art professor Pipo Nguyen-Duy, 64, and his stepmother Tran Thi Phong, 56, at the couple's Ohio home on Wednesday. Police were first alerted when they found a smouldering Toyota hatchback with Oregon plates near the college conservatory; a welfare check then led them to the bodies.

Asia Nguyen-Duy, face tattooed and bloodied, was initially carried into court by officers before being wheeled in a chair, and faces six murder counts.

The suspect's mother contacted police to warn that her child was 'currently psychotic' and in need of medication.

Pipo Nguyen-Duy's work appeared in exhibitions across the US, Europe, Asia and South America; studio art classes at Oberlin have been paused in the wake of his death.
