Protests sweep Italian cities and some violence is reported after Italy sent hundreds of soldiers to guard Milan

Rioters ransacked shops near Milan's Duomo square just last week, and police report that minors accounted for a significant portion of the violent crowds. Premier Giorgia Meloni has answered with stricter penalties for under-age offenders. The newly deployed troops are working alongside roughly 5,000 police officers who are employing drones, station checks and online monitoring. Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala supports the deployment and is worried about a repeat of the disorder.

Omega, Tiffany and Gucci boutiques boarded up their windows before Saturday's marches.
