Putin agrees in principle to resume trilateral peace talks with Ukraine and US next month
Steve Witkoff (right), the top Trump aide, with Vladimir Putin, as a Kremlin aide said a new round of three-way peace talks could be held around 10 November in Abu Dhabi.
Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's envoy, spent about three hours with Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg and told him: 'You are humanitarian also, sir.' Putin aide Yuri Ushakov said a new round could open around 10 November. He insisted it must focus on a post-war security system for Russia and Ukraine. Ushakov also called ideas from Witkoff's Oslo meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky not very 'useful'.
Talks stalled in February, with the Kremlin blaming 'massive' Ukrainian strikes during its elections.
Zelensky said he backs a ceasefire and trilateral talks with the US and Russia.
Witkoff thanked Putin for lifting Russian diesel export controls under a deal with Trump.
