Russian strikes on Ukraine surged 58 per cent during the Starlink blackout and a pause in US intelligence sharing

Ukraine's interceptor drone success rate collapsed from 87 per cent to below 8 per cent during the blackout period, leaving the country exposed to a wave of Russian strikes it could not counter. Presidential adviser Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov confirmed the speed restrictions crippled defensive operations, including helicopter sorties, while having zero effect on Ukraine's own strikes against Russian oil refineries because Starlink does not function on Russian territory.
Russia launched 4,003 strikes in the 12 days from Oct 12, up from 2,527 in the preceding 12-day period, according to Centre for Strategic and International Studies data.
The Pentagon's inspector general has refused a bipartisan Senate request to investigate the blackout, passing the matter to the US Air Force instead.
Beskrestnov says Ukraine still cannot establish who ordered the restrictions, with the Pentagon blaming SpaceX and SpaceX blaming the US government.
