Putin offers Zelensky a one-day ceasefire but rejects 60-day truce, saying Ukraine needs time to 'regroup'

Russia struck Ukrainian power and gas facilities overnight even as Donald Trump claimed a ceasefire was already in place, with Zelensky telling the Warsaw Security Forum that "Putin does not read Truth Social." The Kremlin then offered to pause attacks for just one day — enough for Ukraine to hold elections — while flatly rejecting Kyiv's proposal for a 60-day truce.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine wants 60 days not for elections but to 'regroup, heal their wounds and continue the war.'

Zelensky said he is willing to respect an energy ceasefire and sign guarantees, but only if Russia halts its own strikes first.

European diesel prices fell on Monday as traders responded to Trump's push to drive down US fuel costs ahead of November's midterm elections.
