RAF Chinooks are to fight British wildfires for the first time after a record summer of blazes, Burnham says

Of the 29 fire services that responded to information requests, over half had no wildfire protective equipment. Prime Minister Andy Burnham will announce £45m to tackle this at Friday's inaugural wildfire resilience summit. Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said some areas had battled blazes with no air support at all. Bans on products such as disposable barbecues are also being considered.

England and Wales have seen 1,350 wildfires this year, an all-time high.

The Dunwich Heath fire in Suffolk came to within two miles of Sizewell B nuclear plant.

In Stourbridge, West Midlands, 19 homes were destroyed by fire.
