Greater Manchester Police are hunting rape suspect Ndumbe Achile Ndumbe, 41, who flew from Manchester Airport to Cameroon in January while on bail, with his passport never having been confiscated. The case reportedly involved 'multiple failures' across the system, and retaining his travel document was a decision that should never have been made. Ndumbe is also estimated to owe taxpayers around £200,000 through fraudulent housing benefit claims and court fines.
Housing benefit fraud totalling as much as £180,000 is attributed to Ndumbe, who is accused of making false claims while letting out six properties near Manchester.
At his 2024 arrest, police seized his phone, laptop and camcorder and uncovered evidence of possible offences against other women.
Despite a history of travel between the UK and Cameroon, officers permitted Ndumbe to hold on to his passport — the document he is believed to have used to flee in January.
