Reality star Mackayla 'Kash' Paige's sister accidentally shot her dead trying to defend her in Oakland brawl
Mackayla 'Kash' Paige, who had appeared on reality shows including 'Young & Reckless' and 'Real West Coast Baddies', was killed outside an Oakland nightclub when her sister allegedly fired a gun trying to protect her.
Vernika Dunbar, 38, was attempting to pistol-whip a woman who was fighting with her younger sister Mackayla 'Kash' Paige outside a downtown Oakland nightclub in the early hours of 11 October when her gun discharged, striking Paige fatally. The Alameda County District Attorney has charged Dunbar with felony involuntary manslaughter, assault with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in public, and a misdemeanour count of brandishing a weapon. Paige, 29, whose real name was Mackayla Paige, was rushed to hospital but pronounced dead shortly after 1:35 a.m. Dunbar has remained in custody since the shooting.
A widely circulated video shows Dunbar swinging the pistol at the other woman before the gun fires and Paige collapses to the ground.
Kash had posted Instagram stories of herself enjoying her night out just hours before the shooting, and had dreams of launching her own business and makeup career.
