Rebel Wilson, 46, faces a criminal prosecution brought by the DVLA after the insurance on her Audi Q5 SUV lapsed while she spent five months in Los Angeles awaiting the birth of her second daughter, Rose. The 'Pitch Perfect' actress pleaded not guilty and issued a written apology, saying the car sat in a private underground garage at her £3.5 million Whitehall apartment and was never driven.

The DVLA first wrote to Wilson at her London address offering a fixed penalty, which she did not respond to — triggering the criminal prosecution.

Wilson told the court she was 'unaware' UK law requires a car to be insured even when parked off-road and not in use.

Her case is listed for an open court hearing at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on 30 November.
