Recovery driver is dragged by runaway Range Rover crushed a TGI Fridays worker who tried to save him

Sean Baker, a driver for GRS Recovery, failed to properly secure a black Range Rover on the steep Exeter Crescent in Bournemouth, letting the two-tonne vehicle roll downhill and drag him along the road. Kai Dransfield, on a break from a nearby TGI Fridays, saw Baker hanging from the wheel and ran to help — only for the 4x4 to crush both his legs and fracture his spine. A Health and Safety Executive investigation established that Baker had removed a winch that would have prevented the vehicle from rolling. Baker pleaded guilty and received a 14-week suspended prison sentence.

Dransfield told investigators Baker 'made eye contact' with him as he was dragged, prompting him to try to grab the stricken driver.

Dransfield, who sustained multiple broken bones in both legs and spinal fractures, lives with persistent pain and struggles to walk.

The HSE found that Baker had at first secured the Range Rover with a winch, then detached it and fitted skates to the rear wheels, which enabled the vehicle to roll away.
