Reform-backed Berry accuses Burnham of plotting a 2027 election built on blaming Brexit for everything

Sir Jake Berry, the former Conservative party chairman who now backs Reform UK, has accused Prime Minister Andy Burnham of deliberately laying the ground for a snap general election in May 2027 by steering the national debate onto Brexit and Europe. Berry warns Burnham plans to pin weak growth, high taxes and illegal immigration on Britain's departure from the EU ahead of a summit with Brussels next month. He compared Burnham to Neville Chamberlain returning from Munich waving a piece of paper, and branded his agenda 'Corbynism in a black T-shirt'.
Berry insists Burnham has no mandate to reopen Brexit, calling it 'the greatest democratic decision of our lifetimes' that politicians have no right to reverse.
A new poll finds nearly three-quarters of Labour voters want Burnham to include a commitment to rejoin the EU in his next manifesto, with Britons backing re-entry by 57 to 30 per cent.
