Rent tribunals approve an 88% rise in Dagenham despite Labour's pledge to curb unfair increases for England's renters

London Renters Union data covering May to October reveals that four in five tenants who went through tribunal hearings still faced higher rents, averaging £1,200 more per year. Landlords won their full proposed increase in more than a third of cases, and a mounting backlog has pushed the average wait from application to decision to around 96 days.
A Dagenham tenant on housing benefit saw his monthly rent jump from £1,200 to £2,250 after the tribunal rejected his hardship plea.
Separate Cyborg Finance research found landlords secured their full proposed rise in only 28% of September tribunal cases, with an overall 6.7% net increase across decided cases.
