Renters already facing a £700 rise are warned rents will climb further after Healey's Budget tax raid on landlords

The National Residential Landlords Association warns that Labour's decision to hike property tax on rental income by a further two percentage points from April will push rents even higher than the £700 annual rise already forecast. Chancellor John Healey confirmed the surcharge on rental income will sit four percentage points above its previous level by April 2027, compounding an identical rise announced by his predecessor Rachel Reeves.
The Office for Budget Responsibility warned the tax increase risks 'leading to a steady rise in rents' by reducing the supply of rental properties.
