Rents for new tenancies across Britain climb at their fastest pace in nearly two years, hitting £1,433 a month

Rental growth on new lets has accelerated for the 10th consecutive month, with September's average of £1,433 up from £1,396 a year earlier, according to estate agent Hamptons. London tenants are paying an average of £2,357 a month. Annual growth in the South East and South West both topped 4 per cent, a level not reached since September 2024. The East Midlands saw a rise of just 0.3 per cent.

Existing tenants who faced a rent increase were hit with an average rise of 5.6 per cent.

Hamptons research chief Aneisha Beveridge warns higher rents are likely to 'feed through to more existing tenants'.

Prime London rents have shot up 67 per cent this year to £4,177 a week.
