Trump should fire Hegseth before he is impeached, Republican congressman Thomas Massie warns

Republican congressman Thomas Massie has urged President Trump to push Pete Hegseth out before any House impeachment vote, calling such a step "the honorable thing to do." Massie, who filed articles of impeachment against Hegseth in September, accuses him of waging an illegal war in Iran without congressional authorisation. The Hill reports Trump is weighing whether to remove Hegseth after the midterms. Massie says he will reintroduce the impeachment articles during the lame-duck session regardless of the election result.

Hegseth's suggestion that the firing-squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan be broadcast as a public livestream blindsided even his closest Pentagon advisers, triggering what one official called 'pretty universal revulsion' inside the administration.
