Beluga rescued from Canada's shuttered Marineland dies suddenly at SeaWorld San Diego just two months after arriving

Cyprus, a nine-year-old male beluga, went off his food for two days before an ultrasound showed his intestinal tract was failing. Veterinarians at SeaWorld San Diego worked overnight trying to save him, but he died on Sunday 18 October. Four other belugas from Marineland had already died at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium before him. A full necropsy is planned, with the findings going to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
The journey to San Diego took Cyprus more than 2,500 miles in cold-water transport units, travelling alongside two other belugas.
Those belugas, Xavier and Jasper, are said to be stable and still adjusting.
Marineland closed after financial troubles and criticism over how it treated its belugas.
