Rescuers comb rubble in China's Tibet with snow forecast after a 7.0 earthquake killed at least 16 people

More than 12,400 people have been displaced in Nagqu, where at least 339 houses collapsed in an area sitting above 15,000ft elevation. Xi Jinping has ordered an 'all-out' rescue effort, and upwards of 1,600 workers have been deployed to the zone. Search teams have already swept every village household three times. Officials warn that aftershocks and rockslides raise the risk of further collapses and casualties.

The quake hit at 10.33pm local time, driving residents out into the freezing night.

At least seven aftershocks, reaching up to magnitude 5.2, have since shaken the region.

Rockfalls blocked part of National Highway 317, and rail services through the area were suspended.
