Rescuers search rubble as snow looms after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake kills at least 16 in China's Tibet

More than 12,400 people have been evacuated from Nagqu, where at least 339 homes collapsed when the quake struck at 10.33pm on Thursday. Injuries have risen to 65, with 11 people seriously hurt. Rescue teams are working about 4,800 metres above sea level in freezing temperatures, with snow forecast for the next three days. Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for 'all-out' efforts to find survivors.

Rockfalls have shut part of National Highway 317, and trains through the region have been halted.

Officials fear aftershocks will bring down more buildings, with 413 already recorded.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV says it is the region's biggest earthquake in five years.
