Firefighters were called to Sarnia Court, off Boniface Crescent, after smoke and alarms triggered a major emergency response at 3am. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the blaze was traced to the building's cavity wall, with no casualties reported. A rest centre was opened at Redbridge Primary School for displaced residents.

By 9am the response had been scaled back, leaving fewer fire engines on site than at the height of the incident.

Southampton City Council is working with the fire service to support affected residents.

Residents urged to avoid Boniface Crescent while crews damp down remaining hotspots in the wall.
