Residents of an Oregon coastal town are evacuated after an explosion and fire at a seafood plant spark ammonia fears

Between 30 and 40 people were inside the Pacific Seafood facility in Newport, Oregon, when the fire broke out on Sunday. City officials first ordered everyone within a one-mile radius to leave, fearing toxic ammonia fumes. Fire Chief Rob Murphy said one firefighter was taken to hospital with exhaustion. City spokesman John Fuller said the cause of the blaze is still unknown.

Newport's popular Bayfront tourist district was shut while crews fought the flames into Sunday evening.

Evacuees were moved from Sam Case Elementary to a Lutheran church over contamination fears.
