Trump ally Bernie Moreno warns Republicans are 'dead as a party' if working-class voters desert them before US midterms

Ohio senator Bernie Moreno insists the GOP would already be finished had Donald Trump not won in 2016, claiming the party had abandoned working Americans. Exit polls show Trump took 66% to 67% of white working-class votes in every run since then. Rising costs now threaten that base. Just 33 per cent of US adults approve of Trump's job performance ahead of the November 3 vote.
Moreno said Democrats abandoned working Americans, leaving 'a void' that Trump filled.
A retiring Republican senator has also warned that Trump's coalition may not last.
House Republicans blame the Senate, while senators privately point the finger at Trump.
