Revolut boss Nik Storonsky sets out plan to build a global bank with 'effectively zero risk'

Revolut chief executive Nik Storonsky has laid out his ambitions to turn the fintech giant into a full global bank after a string of regulatory breakthroughs, speaking from the company's new EU headquarters in Paris. The 42-year-old, who cofounded Revolut 12 years ago, now counts 80 million customers across 40 countries. The group secured its UK banking licence in March after a five-year wait, followed swiftly by a French licence and a green light from the key US regulator, the OCC.

Revolut has transformed Irish banking alone, adding more than 3 million customers and becoming the go-to app for everyday payments.

Separately, the Bank of England warned taxpayers face an eight-year wait while it unwinds debt built up during the financial crisis and pandemic.
