Richard Riehle, the Office Space actor who played Tom Smykowski and racked up more than 400 credits, dies aged 78

Riehle reportedly died of natural causes in Los Angeles on Thursday 15 October, and his representatives confirmed his death on Monday without giving details. He played the guard who let Harrison Ford escape in 'The Fugitive' and a quartermaster in 'Glory'. He was also Hollywood's go-to Santa Claus. Co-star Donal Logue called him 'an amazing human being' and 'an actor's actor'.

He fell into acting at Notre Dame and first spoke on screen in 1977's 'Joyride'.

For his famous Office Space halo scene, an EMT fitted him because there was no effects crew.

One fan wrote: 'That man was in everything without you realizing it.'
