Rioters loot shops and set fires in Milan's main square as Italian police clash with cost-of-living protesters

The demonstrators took to the streets against wars and soaring living costs before the protest descended into violence. Police clashed with crowds in central Milan on Saturday as stores were ransacked and blazes lit in the city's main square. The trouble did not stay in one city, with officers also confronting protesters in Bologna. Giorgia Meloni has since spoken out on the unrest.

Clashes broke out in both Milan and Bologna on the same day.

The protest targeted Italy's rising cost of living and ongoing wars.
