Rioters ransack shops and start fires in the heart of Milan as Italian police clash with cost-of-living protesters

Anger at wars abroad and soaring bills at home boiled over in Italy's financial capital, where the protest turned into running battles with officers. The disorder hit Milan's main square on Saturday, with stores stripped by looters and blazes set in the streets. Police also fought protesters in Bologna as the unrest spread. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented publicly on the chaos.

The protesters targeted rising living costs and wars in the same demonstration.

Clashes in two Italian cities show the anger is not confined to Milan.
