Rivals who shot each other over 'disrespect' outside a Birmingham nightclub, hitting a food seller, are jailed for 18 years

Aaron Nubie came back to FJ Lounge in Aston armed with a gun, intent on putting 'right the disrespect' he felt inside, a judge heard. Kimani Durrell-Smith drew his own weapon and both fired within a split second. One bullet went straight through Durrell-Smith's shoulder and struck jerk chicken seller Garth Pantry. Mr Pantry needed surgery for a partly collapsed lung and has not worked since.

Nubie, representing himself at Birmingham Crown Court, insisted: 'It was a form of self-defence.'

Both men refused to tell police how they had been shot, and Nubie claimed he couldn't remember.

A detective called their actions 'selfish and reckless', and FJ Lounge has been shut under a closure order.
