Robbie Savage appointed Peterborough manager and vows to silence doubters in first Football League role

Robbie Savage, 51, has signed a long-term contract at League One strugglers Peterborough United, leaving National League side Forest Green Rovers to take his first job in the English Football League. Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said the board were 'blown away' by Savage, who replaces Luke Williams after the club sacked him last month with Posh sitting second from bottom of the table.

Savage told his first press conference: 'Nobody's given me anything in this world — judge me when we start playing football.'

He is expected to meet his players for the first time on Sunday before his first competitive game, a Football League Trophy tie against Ipswich Under-21s on Tuesday.

Commentators are asking whether Savage can do for Peterborough what Ryan Reynolds did for Wrexham — turning a lower-league club into a national talking point.
