Romanian gang linked to £700,000 burglary spree is jailed for a combined ten years after tunnel raid on jewellers

Ioan Asafeti, 39, got four years and 10 months, Sergiu Plastin, 42, three years and four months, and Laurentiu-Daniel Nitisoara, 38, just two years at Kingston Crown Court. The trio broke into a massage parlour on Mitcham Road, Tooting, to dig through the wall into Selvaraja Gold House. Police swooped just after 3am on July 17. They had already raided the same shop in May.

Asafeti was found hiding on a rooftop; Nitisoara walked towards officers with hands raised.

Plastin was arrested at Stansted later that day trying to flee to Ireland.

Interpol enquiries linked the gang to possible similar offences in Europe.
