The trio smashed into a massage parlour on Mitcham Road, Tooting, and dug through a shower-room wall towards Selvaraja Gold House next door. They had already raided the same shop in May. Ioan Asafeti, Laurentiu-Daniel Nitisoara and Sergiu Plastin flew into Britain shortly before their spree began. Interpol found possible links to similar crimes across Europe.

Asafeti got four years and 10 months, Plastin three years four months, Nitisoara two years.

Plastin was caught at Stansted trying to flee to Ireland, tracked by mobile phone data.

Police found Asafeti hiding on a rooftop while Nitisoara walked towards officers with his hands raised.
