Royal Armouries jousting captain says Lime bike duels are 'absolutely legitimate' as knights plan a London rematch today

Actor Camtholomew the First and artist Jack Carden are set to joust on Lime bikes in London today for a second time, after hundreds gathered at London Fields in Hackney to watch their first duel earlier this month. The pair will ride the bright green rentable e-bikes in chainmail, cloaks and full armour, brandishing lances, at a location still to be disclosed.

Andy Deane, captain of the Royal Armouries jousting team in Leeds, cited medieval precedents including boat jousting and piggyback jousting from the 14th and 15th centuries.

Lime discouraged riders from repeating the stunt after the first duel, warning 'safety must always come first' and insisting its bikes were 'not for jousting'.

Deane, whose 33-year jousting career has taken him through Europe, Asia, Canada and the US, said: 'If I was 20 years younger, I'd already be on the train down there with my bike.'
