Royal Mail delays its second-class post overhaul until after Christmas despite repeatedly missing its delivery targets

Royal Mail's remaining 107 delivery offices will switch to alternate-weekday second-class deliveries on 11 January, following a union agreement that pushes the rollout past Christmas.
Royal Mail's remaining 107 delivery offices will switch to alternate-weekday second-class deliveries on 11 January, following a union agreement that pushes the rollout past Christmas.

The changes will reach the remaining 107 delivery offices on January 11, following an agreement reached with the postal workers' union. Prime Minister Andy Burnham warned last week that the Government could take 'further measures'. The overhaul will cut second-class deliveries to alternate weekdays and scrap them on Saturdays. Royal Mail had promised all 1,200 offices would switch by Christmas.

Around 1,100 offices have already switched, with 15 more due by November 2.

The Communication Workers Union claims Royal Mail is 'on the brink of collapse'.

Chief executive Alistair Cochrane calls the delay a 'pragmatic approach' to protect Christmas.
