The Royal Mint has teamed up with Hasbro to release a Cluedo 50p coin series, available to collectors from Monday and timed to mark a century since the board game's fictional first crime. Strictly Come Dancing winner Ellie Leach, who appeared as Miss Scarlett in the stage production 'Cluedo 2', was on hand for the launch alongside Marcia Lewis, daughter of Cluedo's creator Anthony Pratt. Each coin depicts one of the six classic suspects and carries hidden microtext — readable only with a magnifying glass — listing the game's characters, rooms and weapons.
A free prize draw called 'the case of the missing coin' gives entrants the chance to win a gold 50p that the Mint values at over £2,000; the closing date is 19 October.
Weekly clues will be posted to the Royal Mint's website and social channels, with participants asked to identify three things: which suspect, which location and which coin type.
The silver collector edition carries a price tag 39 times its face value, making condition and purchase timing crucial for anyone hoping to see a future return on their investment.
