Russell Brand's wife tells his rape trial he is a 'kind' and 'attentive' husband despite cheating on her while dating
Russell Brand smiles in the dock as his wife gives evidence at Southwark Crown Court, having shown little emotion throughout the trial until that point.
Laura Brand, 39, took the stand at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday as the opening witness for the defence, telling jurors that Russell Brand was "caring, kind and a wonderful father" who always respected her sexual boundaries. She said the pair broke up in 2007 after she found out he had been sleeping with other women throughout their relationship, describing it as "clear it was difficult for him to be monogamous." Brand, 51, faces seven charges — three counts of rape, three of sexual assault and one of attempted indecent assault — involving six women in a series of allegations covering 1999 to 2009, all of which he denies.
Laura, daughter of golfer Bernard Gallacher and sister of TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, wed Brand in 2017 following a reunion in 2015.
She told the court that intimacy was always "at my pace" and that Brand "respected my view" whenever she was not willing to be intimate.
Brand himself spent more than four hours in the witness box earlier in the week, acknowledging that he had devoted much of his life to "beyond reckless philandering and idiocy."
