Russia could attack a Nato country within months, Danish intelligence warns as Poland fire branded 'act of sabotage'

From the Newshound archive · first published 24 September 2026.

Denmark's defence intelligence service has published a report warning of a "low but growing risk" that Russia could strike Nato infrastructure supporting Ukraine using long-range weapons, or send a small force — possibly without insignia — into a neighbouring country within months. The alert came hours after fire destroyed a Starlink satellite station in the Masovian voivodeship of central Poland, which Polish Deputy Prime Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said was "deliberately designed to disable the station". Polish authorities confirmed that internet access was knocked out for several institutions, including the Ukrainian military. Gawkowski stopped short of naming a suspect but said "many signs suggest this aligns with Russia's new doctrine of attack."

Danish intelligence officials have described the assessment as among the most severe of any issued by a western security service.
