Russia is to ship 40,000 tonnes of diesel to the US on Thursday under Trump's controversial pact with Putin

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak confirmed the vessel will be the first cargo under a deal to release 300,000 tonnes of Russian fuel onto world markets. President Donald Trump says 500,000 tonnes will follow in November and a million after that. Kyiv is furious. Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy branded the pact 'an investment in a war that must be ended'.

In St Petersburg, US envoy Steve Witkoff credited Putin with removing the export restrictions.

Putin floated meeting Trump in China next month, possibly alongside Xi Jinping.

Global diesel prices are still expected to stay high despite the Moscow deal.
