Russian drone kills 14 people waiting for a train at Ukraine's Dnipro station as two teenage girls die in Chernihiv
Volodymyr Zelensky swiftly appealed to the United States to take stronger action in response to the attack.
A jet-powered Russian drone struck a crowded platform at Dnipro's main railway station on Thursday morning, killing 14 civilians and wounding at least 14 more, among them an 11-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man who lost both legs. The attack came as Train No. 866 was about to depart for Zaporizhzhia; Ukrainian authorities said an elevated threat warning had been in place before the drone hit. Thursday's violence left at least 19 dead across Ukraine in total, with 56 people injured — 10 of them children.
President Zelensky called the strike 'horrific' and demanded new US, EU and G7 sanctions, directly linking the attacks to Trump's deal with Putin easing Russian diesel imports.
A fragile local ceasefire in Oleshky — credited by both sides to Melania Trump's mediation — held into a third day even as Russia struck civilian targets elsewhere.
'Civilians preparing for a trip, welcoming or bidding farewell to loved ones faced death and devastation,' the UN's humanitarian coordinator for Ukraine, Matthias Schmale, said.
